I have a headcanon that Cosmo didn't actually die, she narrowly avoided that explosion in time and had to go back to her home planet. But since she never came back during the events of Sonic X, Sonic and friends thought she was dead. But then she travelled back to Mobius (because living on her home planet wasn't safe) and now lives with Sonic and co!
